Weligama Beach Sri Lanka
So what makes Weligama Beach in Sri Lanka so special? For one, its a surfer’s paradise. This little strip of beach got a lot of surf breaks packed for all types of surfers from the ‘Kooks’ to the ‘Soul Surfers’.
In Sinhalese, Weligama translates to ‘sandy village’ and this is perfect cuz the beach has soft, powdery sand that will make you want to lie down, sunbathe or just simply relax. It was at the Weligama Beach that the world-famous photographer Steve Mccurry captured his internationally acclaimed photograph of Stilt Fishermen in 1995. Even today, you can see these fishermen perched above the Indian Ocean on wooden stilts, reeling in the catch.
We Escape is one of the best places to experience this gorgeous beach as it’s only just across the street!
